Most of us know anxiety can be a very hard thing to conquer if it is not discovered and treated quickly. It is important to treat anxiety as early as possible because it can get where a individual finds themselves incapable of controlling regular things that they might face in their daily lives.

It might be hard to know the symptoms of anxiety even more so if the patient does not realize that he is affected by the condition. Those who seem to feel sick for no apparent reason are advised to seek medical assistance immediately because they might be at risk of having a heart attack in the future, that in case it is not anxiety. It is important to identify an anxiety disorder in an early stage because if not provided proper attention, several other complications may occur.

Generally, if some one is found to be suffering from this disorder treatment is usually started with prescription drugs. This is because for starters it does provide some relief from the anxiety attacks which is quite comforting for the patient. However, the relief is only temporary to the victims of this disorder who might chose to withdraw them socially and opt to live in isolation. If they keep going on this course and chose to live in their own closeted world, then their social life is going to be severely affected and become very limited.

Many anxiety treatments are available but all can have serious side affects. Professionals have labeled a proper and healthy dietary and sleeping pattern and organizing exercise as one of the most effective panic anxiety treatments. Those people who are affected by anxiety disorders should work on relaxation techniques frequently and must maintain a schedule for their meditation as well. During this time, they should work on breathing techniques and also try to free their mind of all negative thoughts and instill positive thoughts that will soon lead to complete recovery.

Many non drug online programs are available to aid sufferers cure panic and anxiety disorders and panic attacks following simple methods that work and they can even be practiced at home.

If you’re truly serious about learning how to control anxiety and stop a panic attack, see my complete list of panic and anxiety self-help guides on this page that many other people have used with tremendous success.

Even though medication can offer relief from anxiety and panic attack, long term use of prescription medications for panic attack symptoms is not a solution and bring risks of its own. So it is really important to carefully investigate whether the medication is good for you in the long term by weighing the advantages against the disadvantages.

There is, in fact, a broad collection of medications available for treating anxiety and panic attack such as anti-anxiety medications, antidepressants and beta-blockers. These medications can be effectively used for alleviating the overt symptoms of anxiety and panic disorders. But these are not cure. So the long term usage of medications for anxiety and panic disorder brings, in majority of the cases, disasters.

Side Effect Of Using Long Term Medications

The most widespread side effect of using long term meds for anxiety and panic attack is a high relapse rate, if the treatment is terminated. It is mainly because using these medications seldom leads one to finding the underlying causes of their panic disorder, but focus instead on treating the overt symptoms of these complications. Quite obviously, the result is, when the medication is withdrawn, the attacks start again.

Getting Hooked

The most significant side effects for using medications long term for treating panic disorder are addiction. When someone uses these medications on a long term basis for treating anxiety and panic disorder, quite possibly he or she will become drug dependent. As the habit forms, it becomes hard to live without these medications due to severe withdrawal symptoms, which can be so acute that the individual may need to undergo rehab detoxification.

This drug dependence phenomenon can be of very serious consequence. The benzodiazepines group, in particular, brings different medications for treating anxiety and panic disorder, long term usage of these medications is seriously harmful to health. Xanax, Klonopin and Valium are some known brand under this group that can offer a real addictive effect with prolonged usage. Within just 10-15 days of usage, drug dependency can occur for these medications.

Having Withdrawal

Withdrawal is experienced with the long term usage of many medications for the treatment of panic disorders and anxiety. If one suddenly stops the intake of benzodiazepines, you are at high risk for experiencing acute withdrawal symptoms like agitation, insomnia and recurrence of severe anxiety and panic attacks. Withdrawal can also be an issue of concern for long term treatment of panic attack with medications such as Paxil, Prozac and Zoloft.

Commonly Reported Symptoms

Some commonly reported symptoms of these medications may include headache, nausea, and loss of appetite, dizziness and sexual dysfunction. On the other hand, these may turn out to be apparently diminished and only appear as a result of withdrawal symptoms while the medications are used for protracted frame of time.

Bearing in mind any prescription medications for treating your problem with panic attack disorder, think twice. They are good in providing a temporary solution only. they alleviate the symptoms of these complications, but they can not provide you a permanent solution for you problem.

Can Going To School Make You Sick?

A young person suffering from panic disorder symptoms may experience anxiety panic attack at school. Nevertheless, it may be a common event and the child hides the symptoms from others many times. As a result, the occurrence is more at home than at school. Furthermore, the child may also suffer from didaskaleinophobia or school phobia, which is somewhat common among many children and is itself a form of anxiety disorder occurring in childhood.

Common Panic Attack Symptoms

The usual symptoms might include recurring unexpectedly occurring panic attacks, continuous and abrupt interruption in different activities, low self-esteem, difficulty concentrating, poor academic performance, and difficulty in separating from parents, etcetera. The situation may be worse when it is associated with any type of learning disorder. During his or her anxiety panic attack at school, the child may also report about stomach ache and other physical symptoms.

Successful Involvement Is Key

Although the situation may seem to be quite difficult while managing a student with anxiety panic attack at school, there are actually several ways that a school can be of help to the child involved. At the preliminary phase of the intervention, a collaborative teaching plan should be set up during which a meeting between parents and teachers along with school staff needs to be implemented.

The affected child may need the necessary changes implemented within the classroom setup so that he or she can stay away from panic triggers or become able to get a hold his or her panic attack at school. In fact, there are number of useful approaches that can be implemented in the classroom for better accommodation of the kids who are at greater risk of experiencing a panic attack while in school.

First of all, a check-in module should be established to monitor whether the child will be able to manage classes successfully. The teachers or other school staff should be able to facilitate an undemanding environment where the child would be able to adjust himself especially when he experiences a panic or anxiety attack during school. However, they also need to reward the child as a way to reinforce his presence and being able to control his panic attack once in progress.

The teachers should help the child to develop helpful self-interventions such as enhancing problem-solving ability by engaging the child into a sequence of tasks. A child’s anxiety and or panic attack at school may develop during peer interaction. In fact, this is one of the critical factors that may trigger panic attacks in a child. This is where a teacher’s positive participation can be of help at both ends. Moreover, teacher and school staffs must utilize stratagem to anticipate sensitive issues such as violence. Relaxation techniques should be employed in the child’s curriculum as it is crucially important for reducing stress in the school setting.

Anxiety and panic disorders are often associated with and even misdiagnosed as agoraphobia, but the two not the same, although some scientists believed that as many as 36% of anxiety panic disorder sufferers also suffer from agoraphobia as well.

Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder related to fear. With agoraphobia, you fear being in places where it may be difficult or embarrassing to get out quickly or where you may have a panic attack and can’t get help. Because of your fears, you avoid places where you think you may have a panic attack or panic-like symptoms.

The most common point or fact about treating panic is to let the person know that most of their fears will never ever happen. This is a proven fact that ninety nine percent of your worries never happen. So why worry? Be happy, even if it is for a short while.

Moving On

A panic attack is a sudden surge of overwhelming fear that comes without warning and without any obvious reason. It is far more intense than the feeling of being ’stressed out’ that most people experience.

A panic attack is the classic ‘flight or fight’ response that human beings experience when we are in a situation of danger. But during a panic attack, these symptoms seem to rise from out of nowhere. They occur in seemingly harmless situations–they can even happen while you are asleep.

A panic attack is marked by the following conditions. It occurs suddenly, without any warning and without any way to stop it. The level of fear is way out of proportion to the actual situation; often, in fact, it’s completely unrelated. It usually passes in a few minutes; the body cannot sustain the ‘fight or flight’ response for longer than that. However, repeated attacks can continue to recur for several hours.

While most people if they have been in a hostile situation, treating panic and depression with them would have to be more intense with the help of a clinical psychologist and medication, if they feel they cannot move on until it is dealt with.

Not Always A Quick And Simple Process

Treating panic is not just a quick and simple process, countless sessions have to be attended to get to the root of the problem if the person tends to be over dramatic with every little thing that could possibly happen to them, and finding out the reason why they are continually anxious is a good thing to be treated to.

Were these people who continually needing therapy taught this way of thinking? In most cases treating panic means learning not to pass the anxiousness onto others, especially children. Some people don’t take lightly to others having panic attacks or panic attacks, as it is difficult for them to see what all the fuss is about. While these other people see what the immediate problem is, they get in and sort it out as if they were a bomb squad force, they don’t have time to worry about what doesn’t need attention, only the immediate, and then step back. Focus is what it is all about.

For someone to learn this would be quite difficult if they are continually treating panic attacks by themselves, as they have learned over the years how to have an panic attack by literally seeing it happening, therefore proper guidance is advised.

Most specialists agree that a combination of cognitive and behavioral therapies are the best treatment for panic disorder. Medication might also be appropriate in some cases.
Cognitive therapy can help the patient identify possible triggers for the attacks. The trigger in an individual case could be something like a thought, a situation, or something as subtle as a slight change in heartbeat. Once the patient understands that the panic attack is separate and independent of the trigger, that trigger begins to lose some of its power to induce an attack.

Having Self Control

Self control is the first basic step, for treating panic attacks, breathe and focus on things that need to be done, not what could happen.

There are so many different types of anxiety disorders, but perhaps one of the most frightening and debilitating forms is called anxiety and panic disorder. The disorder is a serious healthy problem, but it can be treated successfully. Some scientists estimate that around 1.7% of American adults have suffered from anxiety and panic disorder at one point in their lives.

Anxiety and panic disorder is often associated with – or even misdiagnosed – as agoraphobia, but the two not the same, although some scientists believed that as many as 36% of anxiety panic disorder sufferers also suffer from agoraphobia as well.

The Usual Symptoms

The symptoms of anxiety and panic disorder are especially terrifying when compared to the other types of anxiety disorders. Someone with anxiety and panic disorder suffers from intense periods of extreme anxiety known as panic attacks. They can last up to an hour, although 1-10 minutes is more common. What makes the panic attacks worse is that they can wax and wane for hours, occurring one right after another.

The panic attacks cause heart palpitations, sweating, dizziness, trembling, and shortness of breath – and that’s just the physical symptoms. The attacks cause intense, uncontrollable fear, and some patients even say they feel like they are “going crazy” in the middle of them.

When And How Often Does It Occur?

Typically, anxiety and panic disorder develops in early adulthood. Around half of its sufferers develop the disorder under the age of 24. Most of its other sufferers are between the ages of 25 and 30, and women are twice as likely to as men to develop anxiety and panic disorder.

Once a person develops anxiety and panic disorder, it can continue for months or even years, depending on whether the sufferer seeks treatment or not. If they choose not to get treatment, anxiety and panic disorder can become a real problem and seriously affect a person’s quality of life. It is also a form of social anxiety disorder, because sufferers report that their panic attacks affect everything they do, their relationships, even their working life.

It is extremely important that anxiety and panic disorder be successfully diagnosed early on because its symptoms are so severe. Death rates in people who have anxiety and panic disorder are found to be higher than the death rate in the general population, and the main cause is believe to be suicide, although doctors are unsure if it’s just anxiety and panic disorder or the combination of it and other disorders.

Panic and Anxiety Disorder Treatments

Thankfully, anxiety and panic disorder can be successfully treated. Most often, cognitive behavioral therapy is used. The patient works with doctors to help curb negative thoughts and reduce or eliminate the attacks. Medication is usually not required, but in rare cases, doctors can prescribe antidepressants or anti-anxiety drugs, which are taken as needed.

Get Help Fast

If you believe you have anxiety and panic disorder, don’t be afraid to contact your doctor and get help – your life will be so much better once you get it under control.

Everybody in the world knows what it’s like to feel anxious or to panic every once in awhile. You’ve felt the fight or flight feeling when your scared or you get butterflies in your stomach before a first date. You start to sweat before a big job interview. Your heart pounds when you almost get into a car accident. Those are all perfectly normal anxieties – but what if you experienced anxiety chronically? What if you felt tense and anxious all the time, usually with no real reason? That’s what someone with an anxiety disorder experiences every day.

Symptoms

Someone with an anxiety or panic disorder will usually exhibit the same symptoms, no matter what specific type they have. They’ll get a headache, start sweating, and experience muscle spasms. They’ll also experience heart palpitations which make them dizzy, light-headed or out of breath. They also suffer from hypertension, or chronically elevated blood pressure. People suffering from hypertension are in danger of suffering from strokes, heart attacks, heart failure or even arterial aneurysms, so you can imagine just how dangerous it is for someone to experience those symptoms all the time without treatment.

Anxiety disorders are considered chronic conditions. A person can begin experiencing symptoms suddenly after an event triggers them, or it can be present from an early age. The disorders flare up in times of high stress. Almost all patients diagnosed with an anxiety disorder are also diagnosed with clinical depression, and vice versa. The two always seem to go hand in hand.

Causes Of Anxiety and Panic Disorders

Numerous clinical studies have suggested that there is a correlation between anxiety and panic disorders and difficulty in maintaining balance due to malfunctions in the region of the brain known as the parabrachial nucleus. The parabrachial nucleus coordinates signals from the amygdala, the part of the brain involved in regulating emotional reactions – such as fear. There is a well-known connection between unusually high levels of SK2 potassium and anxiety as well.

There are a lot of biochemical factors that come into play as well. Low levels of a neurotransmitter called GABA – which is responsible for reducing over activity in your central nervous system – contributes to anxiety. Even chronic exposure to things like paint or varnish can cause the disorders.

Types Of Anxiety Panic Disorders

There are many types of anxiety disorders. General anxiety disorder occurs when a person suffers from long-term anxiety that is not focused on anything in particular. Panic disorder sufferers experience brief attacks of intense terror and apprehension. Agoraphobia is the fear of being in a place or situation where getting away is difficult or embarrassing. Most other phobias are classed as anxiety disorders as well. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and separation anxiety are all anxiety disorders.

Symptoms Nearly Every Day

People with anxiety disorders suffer symptoms nearly every day. However, with treatment, AND SELF HELP METHODS it is possible for them to live more normal lives and start overcoming the fears that are holding them back.

For anyone who’s ever had a panic attack you know what it is and how it feels. They know the terror of the heart racing in their chest, and the other symptoms, which combined leave them concerned for their life. They may have been in to the doctor and told it is “all in your head” – and they’ve worried that it truly was all in their head and they are losing their mind.

Panic attacks may be symptoms of an anxiety disorder. (SEE OUR ARTICLES ON ANXIETY) These attacks are a serious health problem in the U.S. At least 1.7% of adult Americans, or about 3 million people, will have panic attacks at some time in their lives, with the peak age at which people have their first panic attack (onset) being 15 to 19 years.

What Are The Symptoms Of An panic Attack?

First, there are both physical and mental symptoms of an panic attack. Both can be debilitating. They can last from only a few seconds to a half hour or longer. They can be mild, or so intense that a trip to the emergency room may be required.

The physical symptoms range from;

* racing or pounding heartbeat (palpitations);
* chest pains;
* stomach upset;
* dizziness, light headedness, nausea;
* difficulty breathing, a sense of feeling smothered;
* tingling or numbness in the hands;
* hot flashes or chills;

The mental symptoms can be just as hard to deal with;

* dreamlike sensations or perceptual distortions;
* terror: a sense that something unimaginably horrible is about to occur and one is powerless to prevent it;
* a need to escape;
* fear of losing control and doing something embarrassing; and
* fear of dying

What Causes Panic Attacks?

Panic attacks can be caused by several things. First, heredity or genetics plays a part. If you have relatives or ancestors who have suffered from panic attacks, you are more likely to have them also. But those without such connections can also have them.

The way in which one is raised can influence a propensity to have a panic attack. Studies show that those who are raised with a fearful outlook on life and their surroundings are more likely to have this disorder, as are those who have a very passive communication style.

Other physical conditions can also have an impact. Those have obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, hyperthyroidism, hypoglycemia, a vitamin B deficiency, or even labyrinthitis can cause panic or panic attacks.

Panic attacks can also be caused by chemicals introduced into the body. These include “heavy duty” drugs, like Ritalin, anti-depressants, and all SSRI drugs, but also nicotine, alcohol, and even caffeine.

Other issues can also cause a panic attack. Things like phobias, previous panic attacks, or a significant loss or life change (like the death of a spouse) can cause an attack to occur.
