Are you suffering from panic attacks? Then of course you want to find relief for your situation as quickly as possible. Panic attacks are not only alarming but they can also cause you to feel cut off and alone, and begin avoiding specific circumstances in which you used to feel at ease.

As a panic attack sufferer we often even discontinue going grocery shopping or out to the movies because they are so worried that they are going to experience a panic attack while they are out. This is actually the worst thing that they can do, because often the anxiety caused by worrying about future anxiety attacks is worse than the actual attacks.

Getting Panic Attack Relief

For panic attack relief, the first thing you have to do is take control of your mind. Especially if you have been dealing with panic attacks for quite some time now, odds are that you are feeling pretty low and depressed. You need to learn more about the condition and understand that you are not alone and you certainly are not going crazy, although you most likely feel that way.

Panic attack relief involves much more than just one step. After you have completed the first step of panic attack relief program and thinking more positive, then you are going to want to see a doctor. You can talk to your own doctor or see a psychologist or psychiatrist, whichever you feel more comfortable with.

They can help you come to terms with your panic attacks and also help you determine what the root cause of your panic attacks are. They can also advise you on self or group therapy, and group therapy has particularly shown to be effective because it gets you out and interacting with other people who have gone through the same experiences and who therefore can give you great firsthand opinions on what you should and should not do when you are having a panic attack and just in general.

The First Step To Panic Attack Relief

Remember that often times the first step in obtaining panic attack relief or dealing with your panic attacks is going to be learning to observe the thoughts that go through your head during times of stress. Panic attacks often become worse if you begin knocking yourself down or feeding yourself negative thoughts, especially if you are already going through an attack at the time.

Try to slow or stop the thoughts that lead you to anxiety and therefore to a panic attack. Think positive, and know that you will not stop breathing or die from having a panic attack. In other words it’s not as bad as you think it is.

There are so many different types of anxiety disorders, but perhaps one of the most frightening and debilitating forms is called anxiety and panic disorder. The disorder is a serious healthy problem, but it can be treated successfully. Some scientists estimate that around 1.7% of American adults have suffered from anxiety and panic disorder at one point in their lives.

Anxiety and panic disorder is often associated with – or even misdiagnosed – as agoraphobia, but the two not the same, although some scientists believed that as many as 36% of anxiety panic disorder sufferers also suffer from agoraphobia as well.

The Usual Symptoms

The symptoms of anxiety and panic disorder are especially terrifying when compared to the other types of anxiety disorders. Someone with anxiety and panic disorder suffers from intense periods of extreme anxiety known as panic attacks. They can last up to an hour, although 1-10 minutes is more common. What makes the panic attacks worse is that they can wax and wane for hours, occurring one right after another.

The panic attacks cause heart palpitations, sweating, dizziness, trembling, and shortness of breath – and that’s just the physical symptoms. The attacks cause intense, uncontrollable fear, and some patients even say they feel like they are “going crazy” in the middle of them.

When And How Often Does It Occur?

Typically, anxiety and panic disorder develops in early adulthood. Around half of its sufferers develop the disorder under the age of 24. Most of its other sufferers are between the ages of 25 and 30, and women are twice as likely to as men to develop anxiety and panic disorder.

Once a person develops anxiety and panic disorder, it can continue for months or even years, depending on whether the sufferer seeks treatment or not. If they choose not to get treatment, anxiety and panic disorder can become a real problem and seriously affect a person’s quality of life. It is also a form of social anxiety disorder, because sufferers report that their panic attacks affect everything they do, their relationships, even their working life.

It is extremely important that anxiety and panic disorder be successfully diagnosed early on because its symptoms are so severe. Death rates in people who have anxiety and panic disorder are found to be higher than the death rate in the general population, and the main cause is believe to be suicide, although doctors are unsure if it’s just anxiety and panic disorder or the combination of it and other disorders.

Panic and Anxiety Disorder Treatments

Thankfully, anxiety and panic disorder can be successfully treated. Most often, cognitive behavioral therapy is used. The patient works with doctors to help curb negative thoughts and reduce or eliminate the attacks. Medication is usually not required, but in rare cases, doctors can prescribe antidepressants or anti-anxiety drugs, which are taken as needed.

Get Help Fast

If you believe you have anxiety and panic disorder, don’t be afraid to contact your doctor and get help – your life will be so much better once you get it under control.

There are a lot of different symptoms associated with panic disorders. Some disorders have similar systems, while some are unique to a particular disorder. However, all panic disorder symptoms greatly affect the sufferer’s everyday life. They can’t do the things people without the disorders do, because they’re too terrified for no apparent reason.

What Are The Symptoms?

Many panic disorders have similar symptoms. Among those symptoms are fatigue, fidgeting, and headaches. Nausea, fidgeting, and irritability are also common symptoms experienced by panic disorder sufferers. The list goes on: hot flashes, trouble swallowing, trembling, and especially sweating are also associated with many panic disorders. They may also suffer from heart palpitations.

There are also panic disorder symptoms that are not physical. Moments of intense terror are very common. A person needs to be tested for an panic disorder to be properly diagnosed.

What happens during a panic attack?
Panic attacks are associated with physical symptoms that include the following:

* Shaking or trembling
* Feeling that your heart is pounding or racing
* Sweating
* Chest pain or discomfort
* Shortness of breath
* Feeling that you are choking
* Nausea
* Cramping
* Dizziness or weakness
* An out-of-body feeling
* Tingling or numbness in your hands, arms, feet or legs
* Chills or hot flashes

A person may also have an extreme fear of losing control, going crazy or dying during a panic attack. It is very rare for a person to have all of these symptoms at once. However, the presence of at least 4 symptoms strongly suggests that a person has panic disorder.

Other Symptoms

The panic disorder symptom that is most often associated with panic disorder is, of course, panic attacks. A person is debilitated by intense terror and apprehension. Panic attacks occur after prolonged stress or frightening experiences. The panic attacks can last anywhere from a couple of minutes, all the way up 10 minutes. A panic disorder sufferer experiences panic attacks frequently for no apparent reason.

How Does It Affect Everyday Life?

Symptoms of panic disorders greatly affect people’s lives. Someone suffering from agoraphobia – or fear of certain places or situations – will go out of their way to avoid those situations. For instance, if they suffer a panic attack while driving, they will then avoid driving if possible. Another situation common to someone with agoraphobia is that, if they are around other people, they need to always keep an “escape route” – such as the door – in sight. Social panic sufferers are terrified of being seen negatively, and they can become so anxious that they actively avoid all social situations – including gatherings with their friends and families. The physical symptoms of these panic disorders are also difficult to deal with as well – constant headaches and fatigue can really wear you down.

Panic Attack Hope

While panic disorders are difficult to deal with, they’re not impossible. Behavioral therapies or even medications can help alleviate the symptoms associated with panic disorders. People can go on to live happy lives, thanks to the medical breakthroughs being made right now.

Anxiety and Panic The Role Your Mind Plays

For someone who has had a real loss, like the loss of a spouse or some other significant life change, they can be prone to an anxiety or panic attack.

If a person has a phobia, they can have a panic attack in reaction to exposure to the thing they are fearful of.

Once someone has had a panic or anxiety attack, they are more likely to have another panic attack in a similar situation. It is as if their body learns to put the two things together that (for example) being in that situation means they are in danger or under stress and must have another anxiety attack.

What Happens

Having a panic attack is a very frightening thing leaving the sufferer scared, upset, and uncomfortable. Usually it happens all of a sudden, with no warning. The body just suddenly releases many hormones. It is as if the body is in the middle of fight or flight syndrome, with huge amounts of epinephrine released. (Epinephrine is also known as adrenaline, the key hormone in fight or flight syndrome.)

So what does a panic or anxiety attack feel like? It is marked by an intense feeling of fear sometimes to the extent that the sufferer feels they are having a heart attack or are going crazy! They can last from just a very brief few seconds to half an hour or longer.

Regardless of how long the anxiety or panic attack lasts, more important is the cause. While any certain cause of an anxiety or panic attack may be difficult to identify, there are causes that are typical. If you want to stop your anxiety attacks, looking at these potential causes might help you find relief.

The Role The Body Plays

Some conditions of the body can lead to having panic attacks. Hypoglycemia, hyperthyroidism, labyrinthitis, Vitamin B deficiency, post traumatic stress disorder, and obsessive compulsive disorder are all things that can affect the body and also trigger a panic or anxiety attack.

There are also things that some people take into their body that can contribute to the likelihood of having an anxiety attack. These are caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine. Other drugs, such as Ritalin, anti-depressants, marijuana, and all of the SSRI drugs can cause attacks, as well.

Having Anxiety or Panic Attacks Could Be In Your Genes

Some people have a predisposition to panic attacks in their genetic makeup. However, the opposite is also true if there is no family history of anxiety or panic attacks, a person can still develop it.

The environment in which one grows up can also contribute to a tendency toward panic attacks. Studies have found that a person who is taught to be over cautious in the world or who has a very passive style of communication are more likely to have panic or anxiety attacks.
